1. York Award application deadline reminder: 25 January 5.00pm

Your York Award application should be nearly completed by now – just a reminder that it needs to be submitted to Careers (printed copy) by 5.00pm on Friday 25 January.

2. Careers Spotlight on Skills

Whatever stage you are at, it is never too early to start building an impressive portfolio of skills and experience to help you stand out from the crowd to employers and further study providers.  Our Careers Spotlight on Skills, running in weeks 2-5, highlights the support, information and opportunities on offer to help you identify your skills, the areas for development and suggestions of ways to achieve this. 3. Win £2,000 for postgraduate study

You have a chance to win one of five £2,000 bursaries from TargetCourses to help fund your postgraduate course. Closing date is 30 June, and you can find full details at: http://targetcourses.co.uk/bursary-competition  Good luck!

4. Postgraduate funding awards 2013

FindAMasters.com and FindAPhD.com have launched their postgraduate funding awards for 2013. They include £1,000 and £500 scholarships for both taught Masters and PhD programmes. Students of any nationality, who have formally accepted a place to study/research at any state accredited EU or EEA University can apply. Register with www.findamasters.com/funding/postgraduate-masters-scholarships/   or www.findaphd.com/student/funding/postgraduate-phd-scholarships.aspx by 30 June.

5. EVENT: Working in Education and with Young People

Talk to training providers and people working in a range of roles such as teaching, educational research, TEFL, museums education, theatre in education, voluntary organisations, children and families’ support and more. Find out how to gain relevant work experience through volunteering and York Students in Schools (YSIS). 6. Student Blog: Preparing for a career in Finance

7. Apply for YSIS: Applications open Monday week 3 – Wednesday week 5

York Students in Schools (YSIS) offers students the chance to volunteer as student tutors in local schools. Applications for the Spring term open on Monday week 3. Visit www.york.ac.uk/ysis and look under the “Get Involved” tab for more information and “Like” us on Facebook www.facebook.com/yorkstudentsinschools to keep up to date.

8. Go behind the scenes of the Education sector with interactive workshops 

Do you want to know more about the education system? On Wednesday afternoons from Week 4 to 10 you can hear from education consultants about current theory, techniques and practice. These YSIS Plus workshops are led by consultants from the City of York Council and are open to all students. 9. Win 2 weeks work experience with the BBC

The 6 Music Salford Editor, Julie Cullen, is offering you the opportunity to complete a work placement with her team at MediaCityUK. This is a brilliant chance for students to work alongside the production teams at BBC 6 Music and get the inside track on how they build a show. 10. ‘Making Sense of Art’ – York Art Gallery competition

How creative are you? Could you design an activity or an object or a tactile painting which would allow a blind or visually impaired visitor to enjoy and understand one or more of the paintings in York Museums Trust’s collections.  You can find full details of the competition at http://php.york.ac.uk/fs/care1/blog/?p=5462 Closing date is 3.00pm, 1 February.
