While the sun has been shining and York students have been travelling, gaining work experience or taking a break, we in Careers have been busy spending our summer creating some new online info.
We’ve changed our job sector pages to give a more York-centric focus, with suggestions of what you can do while at York to gain relevant experience and skills for different sectors.
The new sectors are:
- Advertising, marketing and PR
- Charity and voluntary sector
- Civil service, local and central government
- Finance and consultancy
- Politics and public affairs.
Split into Explore the sector and Getting into the sector, there’s lots of information to help you find out about these areas of work.
Don’t worry if the sector you’re interested in isn’t available yet. We’re working on adding more and in the meantime we can direct you to other useful resources or help you identify ways in which to gain the knowledge and experience relevant to your chosen sector.
- Postgraduate Careers Timeline
It’s a year since we introduced our undergraduate Careers Timeline to help students think about what careers-related things they can be doing and when. This academic year we’ve launched a version specifically for students on taught postgraduate courses.
So, if you’re studying a Masters and need some suggestions of what to do in an already busy one-year course, use the postgraduate Timeline to help organise your time. Click on the View Masters version link from the main Timeline page to get started.
- International students web pages
We’ve extended our information for international students and made it easier to find what you need. So, whether it’s information on working during your studies; working in the UK after your studies; returning home at the end of your course; or further study (either here in the UK or elsewhere in the world), visit these pages for more details.
- Postgraduate students web pages
With information for both taught postgraduates and research postgraduates, our pages have been revised and extended further, and cover career planning, looking for work. There’s also lots of useful resources to help you whatever you’re considering after your time at York.
- Coming soon – which appointment?
With four different types of appointments on offer in Careers, it can be tricky for students to know which one to book. Coming soon, we’ll be introducing a series of prompts to help you book the right appointment for your enquiry and situation. In the meantime, if you’re not sure, contact us and we’ll be able to help.
