Why work for a charity when you can set one up yourself?!

Do you have an idea that could be beneficial to society? Have you identified a need for your idea; a group of people or individuals that you can help? Is your idea not-for-profit? If the answer is yes to these three questions you are have the makings of a great charity!

It was in 2009 when I set up Together We Create. I set up the charity with the belief that young people could benefit their local communities if given the right skills and support. Prior to 2009 I had spent time working with young people of all ages running creative workshops in schools and community spaces, so I knew there was a demand and a possibility. Moreover I had a passion to make a change and a passion to give young people a voice.

There are lots of ways you can get help from Careers, and we have appointments available most days. However it’s not always necessary to book an appointment – depending on your  situation you may be able to talk to a member of the information team first to help you get started, and then follow this up with an appointment with an adviser once you’ve had a chance to do some research or information gathering.

Is your CV up to date?

Now is a good time to  check your CV before those busy first few weeks of term and the autumn careers fairs…

If you haven’t applied for a job recently, the chances are that your CV is in need of updating.  Employers at the autumn careers fairs are often prepared to accept a CV (and it’s a useful way of helping them to remember you), so make sure your CV is up-to-date and relevant to the employers you hope to visit at the fairs.  Continue reading
