York Award

Congratulations to those final year students who have successfully passed the York Award. Your application forms and assessor feedback are available for collection from Careers – a useful reference for making job or further study applications.

1st Years – now it’s your turn! Only two weeks to go before the deadline for applications for the new-look York Award. Tell us what you’ve been doing since Autumn and see how this can help you with your future work experience, graduate job or postgraduate study.

Visit the website for the short application form and guidelines for completing it. You can also check out which College is leading on the most applications – Halifax and James are currently neck and neck!

Block placements applications now open – valuable experience if you’re considering applying for a PGCE or want to further develop your classroom skills. Apply via Careers Gateway by Sunday Week 1.

  1. Sign up to attend our Working In Research event on Thursday 28 April. Your opportunity to hear from a panel of professionals working in research roles across the academic and business worlds. The Q&A panel will be followed by informal networking.
  2. Enter Plan ENVY. Our business idea competition is open to all students and recent graduates from the University. The top prize is £2000. Further information and the application form can be found on the Enterprise website. Deadline for applications is Friday 29 April.
  3. Apply to get some classroom based experience in a local school. YSIS block placements are full time placements over the last two weeks of summer term. Apply online via the Exclusive Opportunities @York tab on Careers Gateway.  The deadline is Sunday 17 April.

Volunteer in the local community

We are recruiting student volunteers to work in local schools and community organisations during the summer term. Placements can fit around your timetable and will only take a few hours of your time each week. We have community placements in a range of organisations including heritage, conservation and public sector.
York Students in Communities and York Students in Schools are still open for applications until Sunday Week 5 (7th Feb)

@Work summer term team projects (for students from Education, English & Related Literature, History of Art, and Politics) open for applications on 1 February. Over 30 projects to get involved in across research, marketing, publishing, social justice, heritage and events.  Find out more on the @Work webpage
